What is PC/ABS?
PC/ABS is a polymer that combines acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and polycarbonate (PC), two thermoplastics widely used in the manufacturing industry. This blend is designed to leverage the strengths of both polymers, delivering a balanced set of properties suitable for a wide range of applications.
ABS is known for its toughness, flexibility, and ease of processing. It offers good impact resistance and can be molded into complex shapes, making it popular in industries such as automotive and consumer goods. However, it has limitations in heat resistance and strength under certain conditions. On the other hand, polycarbonate is valued for its transparency, high strength, and ability to withstand high temperatures, often used in products requiring durability, such as safety equipment or electronic enclosures, though it can be more brittle than ABS.
When blended into PC/ABS, the resulting polymer exhibits higher heat resistance and strength compared to pure ABS, while maintaining good impact resistance and processability.
