What is PA6?
PA6, also known as polyamide 6 or nylon 6, is a synthetic polymer commonly used across various industries. It is produced through the ring-opening polymerization of caprolactam, a chemical compound. PA6 is renowned for its strength, durability, and abrasion resistance, making it a popular material for manufacturing products such as automotive components, textiles, and plastic parts. It also offers good flexibility and can withstand high temperatures, further enhancing its versatility.
Unlike PA66, PA6 exhibits slightly superior impact resistance and is easier to process. It also absorbs more moisture from the air, which may affect its dimensional stability depending on the application.

Polyamide 6 (PA6) Frequently Asked Questions
Is PA6 the same material as Nylon 6?
Yes, PA6 is the chemical abbreviation for Polyamide 6, also known as Nylon 6. Both terms refer to the same polymer.
What is the difference between PA6 and PA66?
PA6 generally offers better impact resistance and is easier to process, while PA66 provides higher strength and superior thermal performance. The choice depends on the application requirements.
Is PA6 resistant to chemical corrosion?
PA6 exhibits good resistance to oils, greases, and various solvents, but it may be affected by strong acids or bases.
Does PA6 absorb moisture?
Yes, PA6 is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air. This can affect its mechanical properties and dimensional stability, particularly in high-humidity environments.
Is PA6 suitable for injection molding?
Yes, PA6 is widely used in injection molding processes due to its excellent flowability and its ability to form strong, intricate parts.
What colors are available for PA6?
PA6 can be produced in natural, black, or custom colors depending on the application and requirements.
Can PA6 be used in high-temperature environments?
PA6 has a melting point of approximately 220–230°C and can withstand continuous service temperatures of up to about 100°C. For higher heat resistance, reinforced or modified grades are recommended.
