PS Polystyrene — GPPS & HIPS

Crystal-clear GPPS and high-impact HIPS from 7 suppliers — INEOS, Renxin, Haoyuan, Xinghui, Liwan, Chi Mei, and Weixing. For packaging, appliances, electronics, and consumer goods.

PS Polystyrene Overview

Polystyrene (PS) comes in two main forms: GPPS (General Purpose Polystyrene, also called crystal PS) is a transparent, glass-like rigid material; HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) is an opaque, impact-modified version with butadiene rubber for toughness. Together they serve packaging, electronics, appliance, and consumer goods markets.

Physical Characteristics: GPPS: Fully transparent glass-like pellets — rigid and brittle, with a crisp sound upon impact. HIPS: Opaque milky white pellets — excellent impact resistance, with a matte to semi-gloss surface finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between GPPS and HIPS?

GPPS (General Purpose Polystyrene) is crystal-clear, hard, and brittle — like glass. It is used where transparency matters. HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) has butadiene rubber added, making it opaque white and much more impact resistant. HIPS won't shatter like GPPS.

Can GPPS be used for food contact applications?

Yes, GPPS is widely used in food packaging including disposable cups, containers, and cutlery. It is FDA-approved for food contact. Always verify specific grade certifications with our team.
