PA66 (Polyamide 66) resin particles for engineering and industrial applications

What is PA66?

PA66, also known as polyamide 66 or nylon 66, is another synthetic polymer in the nylon family. It is produced through the polycondensation reaction of two chemicals, hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid. Compared to PA6, PA66 exhibits a higher melting point and superior heat and chemical resistance, making it ideal for applications requiring additional toughness, such as engine components, industrial gears, and electrical connectors. With its high strength, durability, and excellent stress resistance, it is widely used in engineering and consumer goods. In essence, PA66 is a robust, heat-resistant material suited for demanding applications.

PA66 FAQ

What is the melting point of PA66?

The melting point of PA66 is approximately 255–265°C(491–509°F), which is higher than that of PA6, making it more suitable for high-temperature applications.

How does PA66 compare to PA6?

PA66 offers Superior mechanical strength, Higher melting temperature, and Lower moisture absorption , but at a slightly higher cost and with somewhat reduced flexibility.

Is PA66 suitable for injection molding?

Yes, PA66 is widely used in injection molding. It offers good flowability and can produce dimensionally stable, robust, and durable parts.

Does PA66 absorb moisture?

Yes, like all polyamides, PA66 is hygroscopic. However, compared to PA6, its moisture absorption rate is slightly lower, which helps maintain mechanical properties over the long term.

Is PA66 flame retardant?

Standard PA66 is not inherently flame retardant, but flame-retardant grades are available for electrical and electronic applications.

Can PA66 be reinforced?

Yes. PA66 is commonly reinforced with glass fibers to enhance stiffness, heat resistance, and dimensional stability, particularly for automotive and industrial components.
